LAKE HIGHLANDS

Lake Highlands is located in northeast Dallas. It is one of the prettiest areas of Dallas with hills, valleys and mature trees, and convenient to downtown. 

This area has a very diverse population, and is neighborly and family-friendly with block parties and other activities. There are lots of parks and trails that lead to nearby White Rock Lake for biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking, and picnics. Fair Oaks Park with public tennis and horse back riding. Flagpole Hill Park is public and it's near Northwest Highway has a covered pavilion and picnic table. People up on Flagpole Hill find flying their kites easier because of the unobstructed wind flow.

Houses are typically modestly priced mid-century homes, but there are also some newer gated communities built in the 80s and 90s. And many of the old multi-family houses are now being redeveloped. 

There are several small strip shopping centers scattered around Lake Highlands, which typically have a grocery store and some gift shops, little dress shops, coffee shops and drugstores. Near Skillman and Abrams are some larger stores like Home Depot, Walmart and Sam's. Lake Highlands is close to Royal Oaks Country Club, Top Golf and the 29-acre Lake Highlands North Recreation Center. There is a community garden near Flagpole Hill with 89 plots and some beehives where residents can rent a plot. 

Richland College is north of LBJ in an area considered Lake Highlands. Old Lake Highlands is an area south of Northwest Highway which is in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). Some areas of Old Lake Highlands, because it is so elevated, have beautiful views of White Rock Lake and downtown Dallas. Other areas of Lake Highlands are in the Richardson Independent school District (RISD). Some private schools in the area St. James Montessori (K-12), Highlander (K-12) and Scofield Christian (K-12). Lake highlands is a family-oriented community, with parents very involved in the schools
